We will have our District Reading Benchmark on Tuesday, February 7th. We will "run" this day like a STAAR testing day. This test will give us information on skills your child has not yet mastered and help to guide us on lessons that need to be retaught. Please make sure your child gets plenty of sleep the night before and eats a good breakfast. On Wednesday, we will go over the test with our students and share any data we have received about their results. On Friday, we will discuss and review strategies to use tests. We will spend some time having a Read-in to support the students with their Reading Log. If your child is working on one of their projects for the Reading Log they may bring it to class to complete. If your child wants to have us "spot check" their projects. they can bring them to class on this day.
Homework
Please have your child read at least 30 minutes each evening for homework this week. Have them write a summary over their reading each evening for an extra grade in the grade book. Please have them read you their summary each evening and sign their paper. This will be due on Friday.
Social Studies
This week, we will continue discussing the causes of the Civil War. Students will be learning the economic, political and geographic differences between the North and the South in the years before the war. Students will be answering essential questions, such as, what is worth fighting for and how do leaders unite society around one cause? Students will also be investigating if the South should have been allowed to secede from the Union.
Students will receive homework on Tuesday. It will be due on Thursday.
