Language Arts
We will explore through Informational Expository text throughout the entire week. We will use many reading skills taught to complete several activities. We will focus on Author's Purpose, vocabulary skills, and writing prompts dealing with the text read during class. On Friday, we will complete in class a paired reading passage and discuss strategies used to answer comprehension questions.
Homework
This week, the students will have two passages to complete at home. After your child finishes their homework, please go over the homework with them. These are STAAR like passages, and it is important that your child is becoming aware of different types of questions that will/could be asked on the STAAR test. It would be great if you and your child could discuss the questions together and have them explain to you why they selected the answer they did. Please make sure your child is reading every evening. Don't forget their Reading Log and three projects are due Friday, March 3rd.
Social Studies
This week, we will be discussing life during the Civil War and how the war ended. Students will know the importance of the Emancipation Proclamation and the roles of different groups in the Civil War. Students will also be using information learned by participating in group activities using task cards and writing letters in the point of view of Confederate soldiers.
There will be a test on the Civil War on Tuesday, February 21st. Study guides will be given to students on Tuesday, February 14th. Homework this week will be to study for the test.
