Week of January 30-February 3

Language Arts

We will continue working on our Traditional Folktale unit throughout this week. The students will create and complete several activities using an iPad to discover examples of each folktale studied.  On Friday, they will have a test over the different types of Folktales based off of the vocabulary words they received last week that is in their 5 subject spiral.  We will discuss Order and Sequence in our writing as well as in our reading.  The students will read several entries and be able to use the test read and "pull out" details and put them in sequence order.  This is something the students should be able to do with both their reading and writing.

Homework

The students will continue to work on their Expository writing masterpiece at home this week.  They have been given several graphic organizers to assist them in completing this assignment.  We have worked in class all last week, so they should be able to have a parent/older sibling/guardian edit their papers and write their final copy at home and turn it in one Friday, February 3rd.  This is a major grade.

Social Studies

This week, we will be wrapping up our unit on United States expansion and begin discussing the causes of the Civil War.  We will discuss major leaders, their decisions, and the events that shaped the fight for women's rights.  We will also learn about different perspectives on both slavery in the western territories and the states' rights.

Homework will be given on Tuesday and due on Thursday.
