Week of February 20-24

Language Arts

This week will be a little different: No School on Monday.  On Wednesday, we will have a District Math Benchmark, which we will run as a "practice" STAAR test for majority of the day.  On Friday, we will be going to the Book Fair, and we will continue to work on Informational Expository text.  The students will complete activities to monitor their comprehension over the text while including their writing alongside to branch the two together.

Homework

Homework will be given on Tuesday (since the students do not have school on Monday) and it will be due on Friday, February 24th.  Please make sure your child is reading each evening and recording their books on their Reading Log.

Just a friendly reminder, the Reading Logs are due on Friday, March 3rd with the three projects.  The Reading Logs are a major grade as well as the three projects.  We have discussed with our students what the projects should be like especially since they are a major grade.  Here are a few important hints to look for when you see your child's projects before they turn them in: is the project colorful, does it include details, no spelling or grammar errors, is it following project directions.  If you or your child have any questions, please ask before the day the projects are due. We have already seen some incredible projects!!

Social Studies

This Tuesday, February 21st, the students will be taking a test over the Civil War.  This test is a bit longer than the previous tests they have taken.  The test will consist of matching, multiple choice, and three short answer questions.  Please be sure your child is studying for this test.

We will also begin learning about Reconstruction after the Civil War.  Students will learn the different plans for Reconstruction and the effects of new amendments added to the Constitution.

Homework will be given on Tuesday and due on Thursday.
