Week of January 9-12

Language Arts

This week, we will continue to work through the study of Literary Nonfiction. The students will complete independent activities as well as working in groups to dive in deep into this unit.  We will finish our week with several activities about MLK, Jr. in honor of our holiday on Monday, January 16th.  We will begin working on our Expository writing masterpiece.  The students are working hard and striving for their goals!!

In case you missed this last week...
The students received their new Reading Logs on Tuesday, January 3rd and they will be due Friday, March 3rd.  This reading log will have an additional grade that will also be due on Friday, March 3rd.  If you look on the back of the Reading Log, there is a Book Report Choice Board.  The students will be required to complete 3 of the activities listed on 3 different books from their Reading Log.  The students will turn in both for two different major grades. Please stress with your child the importance of them completing both of these major grade requirements. We will remind the students throughout this quarter about their Reading Log and 3 projects.  Please set dates for them in completing their Reading Log and 3 projects.

Homework

We will have homework this week and it will be due on Friday, January 13th. Please review your child's homework and make sure they are completing it and encourage them to turn it in on time.  Don't forget they should be reading every evening for at least 20 minutes or more.  Thanks for all your support.

Social Studies

This week, we will be learning about the Louisiana Purchase and the Lewis and Clark Expedition. We will be outlining the tasks Lewis and Clark sought to accomplish during the expedition.  We will also be learning about the War of 1812.  We will be charting the causes and effects of the war in graphic organizers.

There will be a test on Ch. 7 on Tuesday, January 17th.  Study guides will be given on Tuesday, January 10th.  Studying for the test will take place of homework this week.
