Language Arts
This week, we will begin our Poetry unit of study. Our students will define terms, create examples to teach to their classmates, complete anchor stations covering each specific term. These terms should be a reteach for them, but by Wednesday ask them what a simile, metaphor, hyperbole, onomatopoeia, and other figurative language terms mean. They will have their study guide for the test which will be on Friday, October 28th in their 5 subject spiral. They will receive their study guide on Monday, October 24th during class. Please send an item from home on Friday, October 28th that they can use to create a poem about. The item must be small enough to fit in backpack, not breakable, or of high value. Your child will be responsible for the item.
Thank you for reading, editing, and working with your child on their personal narrative. We know you all enjoyed seeing your child's work and creativity they displayed in their writing.
Reading logs were given to students on Monday, October 17th for this quarter and will be due on December 9th. We continue to "check in" with our students about their reading log throughout the quarter, but at home it would be great to set up dates for you to check with your child on the books they are reading and recording on their sheet. We also explained to our students their chapter book that they are reading in their guided reading group can count toward their reading log.
Social Studies
Last week, we learned about the causes of the American Revolution. This week, we will begin studying the Declaration of Independence. We will explore the reasons for writing the Declaration of Independence, and how the writing of the Declaration of Independence impacted the American Revolution.
There will be a test on the Road to the Revolution on Tuesday, October 25th. Study guides were given out last Tuesday, October 18th.
Good news! The online Social Studies text book is up and running. Instructions on how to log in are on the Mitchell Intermediate website. Under Mitchell Curriculum Links, click on social studies.
