The Week of October 17-21

Language Arts

The students will receive their new Reading Log on Monday, October 17th.  They will have 6 book to read on this Reading Log.  The Reading Log will be due on Friday, December 9th for a major grade.  We will have a project that the students will complete during these weeks based off one of the books they are reading (more information will come later about the project).

This week, we will be introducing and working on Nonfiction Text Features.  The students will be completing anchor stations to practice with these features and so they become familiar with the terms and how to use them.  Please ask your child during the week, "What are Nonfiction Text Features or Can you show me what Nonfiction Text Features look like?"

The students will be working and finalizing their Personal Narratives next week. On Friday, we will be sending home your child's paper for them to share it with you.  Please give pointers if need be...they can type or write their final copy, but it will be due on Monday, October 24th.

Homework

Homework will be given on Mondays and due Fridays.  Homework must be completed when they get to school.  It will be late if they get to school and complete it on Friday during class, working lunch, or advisory.  Please make sure your child is still reading every evening.

Social Studies

Last week, students learned about the French and Indian War, and how it caused tension in the colonies due to British taxes.  This week, we will explore these tensions and discover how they esculate to what we know as The American Revolution.  Students will create foldables detailing the different Acts imposed on the colonists and their protests over the these Acts.

A study guide will be handed out on Tuesday, October 18th.  There will be a test over The Road to Revolution on Tuesday, October 25.
