Week of September 12-16

Language Arts

This week, we will continue to review grammar skills.  We will cover commas and apostrophes this week.  All of the grammar skills we are covering are a review from previous years.  We are starting our personal narratives as well.

In reading, we will work with the Plot Structure graphic organizer.  The students will complete several activities using picture books and a novel.  We will also introduce internal and external conflicts within a story.

9/12: Quiz of Commas
         Elements of Plot test

Homework

Our language arts homework right now will be for our students to read every evening at least 20 to 30 minutes.  Reading is a key to learning, and we want our students to really spend time doing this every evening.

Social Studies

This week, we will continue with our Celebrate Freedom unit.  We will continue to discuss United States symbols and landmarks.  We will also be learning about citizenship and how to be a good citizen, and we will discuss how we participate in government.  Our warm-ups will be working on geography skills this week.  Homework will be assigned and due on Thursday.  Work not finished in class will also be assigned as homework as well.
