Reading
This
week, we will continue our district reading assessments. One of our
focuses this year is for our students to be able to use their
independent reading book in class with daily assignments. We will
practice doing this with our students during our reading class. All
assignments will be completed in class.
Wax Museum News
We will be working on our last two components for Wax Museum the next several weeks. Please mark your calendar because the date has been changed to Thursday, September 21st @ 6:30, this will be our Wax Museum evening.
We
will have tri-boards for sell for Wax Museum for $2.50. Please send
cash to purchase one for your child. Your child will also need many
other items for their Wax Museum tri-board. We have discussed with them
how it should look and haven shown them an example of one as well.
Items needed: rubber cement glue, colored paper, decorative border,
letters for character's name, stickers that relate to their person.
If
your child is new to our LC this year, they will have the option to
participate with fewer assignments. They will also have to complete a
lot of the project at home. If your child does want to participate,
please email me as soon as possible.
Our first reading logs were given to the students on Tuesday, September 5th. Since this is a shorter quarter, and we were out because of the storm, there will not be as many books required on this Reading Log. There are five books on their handout, but they only have to complete three of them. They can use any book they have read from August 16th to present. The Reading Log will be due on Friday, September 29th for a major grade.
Writing
In writing this week, we will continue to work on our personal narratives. We will have many lessons on dialogue/quotations and how to write strong conclusions. We will also introduce compound sentences and pronouns during our grammar mini lesson.
Social Studies
This week, we will be discussing Climate and Weather, World Climate Regions, and Natural Resources. During our discussions, we will also explore the world's oceans. Students will complete reading notes for each section we read. Homework will be given on Tuesday, September 12th and be due on Thursday, September 14th.
