Week of August 29-September 2

Language Arts

We will begin our Beginning of the Year Literacy Assessments this week.  The students will be introduced to our classroom anchor stations and learn our expectations for them.  We gave our students their "Reading Log" for this quarter on Friday, August 26th.  This Reading Log is due on October 7th as a MAJOR grade.  The students should read a book for each genre on the sheet of 100 pages or more.  We discussed the reading log with the students and clearly explained the expectations with them.  If there is any additional questions please email either Mrs. Taylor or Ms. Conner.  Please make sure you sign the parent signature part of the reading log. Language Arts homework for next week is to read each evening for 30 minutes.

Social Studies

This week in social studies, we will continue working on geography and then moving into economics and the free enterprise system.  Social studies homework will begin this week. The homework will be given on Tuesdays and due on Thursdays.

If your child has not purchased a 5 subject spiral, please try to purchase one this weekend for we have already set up our spiral and have used them.  We will work with your child to get caught up ready they are able to bring it to class.  If your child has not returned the permission slip to check out library books from "our" class libraries, please make sure they return the permission slip as soon as possible.

FYI- Due to the fact that Ms. Conner and Mrs. Taylor teach the same subjects, our information is in one section of the newsletter.  Regardless of who your child has for each subject, the information is the same.

We had an incredible first week and look forward to awesome school year.
